Our Story

Our story begins in New Castle, AL, several generations ago. Living on minimal means, our grandparents and great-grandparents depended on home cooked meals to provide nourishment to growing children and sustenance to hard working parents. Barbeques were our way to connect and reflect as a family.

John “Sonny” Hall, Zanetta Roberson’s father, was a staple in the New Castle community and a cornerstone of the family barbeques. He loved to start his day early, smoking ribs and chicken for the family; while those smoked he would prepare the BEST burgers for us. When he wasn’t barbequing, he was fishing the rivers and lakes all throughout Alabama. Seldom was a day he didn’t bring back something good to eat for the family. While Sonny prepared the main course, Barbara Hall, Zanetta’s mom, would focus on the fixin’s - mac and cheese, baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw and more were all the rave at family gatherings.

Today, Zanetta, with the support of her family, keeps John’s and Barbara’s passion alive. After 40+ years in the restaurant and hospitality industry, she transitioned into the food truck world - sharing her father’s recipes with the community. After connecting with Pelham, Birmingham, Trussville, Gardendale, and other cities across central Alabama, Zanetta has established Hit Different! Barbeque and Grill restaurant.

Together, Zanetta, her husband, Darrin, and her son, Dyron, are proud to continue the family legacy.
